Nabalco's Supply Department last month awarded two key
suppliers for their commitment to service and efficiency at the 1999 Supplier
Performance Awards. Nabalco’s Supply Manager, Greg Courts, presented two
awards - "Best Alliance Commodity Supplier" and "Best Supplier
Innovation Award." Winners were determined following a detailed review of measured statistics indicating overall performance, meeting deadlines, filling orders and quality of goods upon arrival. In collating these statistics, one company stood out as the exceptional performer for the year. ISAS, a local Darwin supplier of electrical goods, was awarded with the Best Alliance Commodity Supplier Award for achieving 92% ‘on time, in full’ delivery. This achievement is to be recognized industry-wide as an outstanding achievement by any supplier. Reflecting the changing nature of purchasing and supply trends, the awards emphasised the use of e-commerce. Currently 90% of companies doing business with Nabalco are on-line and accessible via e-mail or the web. Indicative of this trend and Nabalco’s commitment to embrace new and competitive techniques SBA Office National, also a local Darwin supplier of stationery and office supplies, was presented with the "Best Supplier Innovation Award" for Internet Procurement. To improve their competitiveness and efficiency, SBA has developed an intranet website designed specifically for use by Nabalco in purchasing supplies. This innovative system allows Nabalco’s administrative personnel to purchase from an on-line intranet catalogue using credit cards and thus reducing time consuming paperwork and, more importantly, reducing our inventory levels. The Supplier Awards were first presented in 1998 and Supply Manager, Greg Courts, was delighted to present this year’s awards. "These awards provide us with the opportunity to reward those suppliers who continually provide efficient and dedicated service to Nabalco," Greg said. "Not only are these awards a recognition of the recipients’ achievements, they provide an insight and an incentive to other suppliers as to what can be attained. It is also pleasing to note that the recipients are all long term Northern Territory suppliers proving that Territory suppliers can compete on service against interstate suppliers." "In order to meet our corporate objectives, we are looking for the highest levels of ‘on time, in full’ service and the latest innovative techniques from our suppliers," Greg said. "We have received positive feedback about these awards and there are plans to broaden the scope in coming years. All of our suppliers are currently striving to win the 2000 Supplier Awards which means ever-increasing levels of service." The award ceremony was held at Rydges Plaza in Darwin on 16 March. Around 30 guests from various supply companies heard a presentation on Nabalco’s operation and were given an overview of the company’s supply strategy by Lynden Darling, Purchasing and Inventory Superintendent. These awards are only one avenue Supply Department is using to improve performance. An increasing number of Contract Suppliers are being sought and numerous Forward Purchasing Agreements signed. In all, these measures mean an improved service from suppliers to customers — everyone at Nabalco. Nabalco views its suppliers as a critical component in achieving continuous improvement to realise corporate objectives. By seeking the highest quality service and commitment from key Contract Suppliers and everyone who contributes to our work, Nabalco can continue to maintain its competitive world position. |
