Example Project Work

Completed by the Engineered Systems and
Manufacturing Groups

East Arm Port SCADA

East Arm

The new East Arm Port project was a recent large project that utilised the engineered systems group to design and construct a complete control SCADA system. The company was contracted by AMEC Engineering to design, supply and commission all the 415v switchboards and Allen Bradley PLC systems. The system manages the site by controlling the HV and LV load shedding, standby power generators, HV and LV transfer switches, lighting control, fire fighting systems, DC battery banks, scheduled testing, alarming and reporting. The control system extends throughout the site and utilises a redundant ring fibre optic network to provide a robust communication system. ISAS developed a high level interface to the ONAN generators for the standby power and fire services. This provides full engine and alternator status to the SCADA and reporting system.

Royal Darwin Hospital BMS

The Royal Darwin Hospital Building Management System (BMS) was installed to all mechanical services at the site. It provides complete control over the air handing and chiller plants, security, boilers, pumps, generators, medical gases, water tanks, steam and condensate, smoke spill control and pressurisation and monitors the entire fire system for correct operation. The system is based on Allen Bradley SLC500 and PLC5 controllers networked with fibre and copper cables. There are approximately 80 PLC’s on the site. Access to any of the PLC’s is available from ethernet via a ControlLogix 1756 Gateway. Several MMI SCADA terminals provide system access and programming for operators. The security system is coupled to the site paging system and provides alarming and control for the various security doors and duress call systems on the site. The BMS is programmed to monitor all aspects of the mechanical plant during fire and smoke modes.

Should any component such as a damper or smoke fan fail to operate correctly for a given fire condition the system will report the fault. The BMS includes 40 off VVVF drives operating a range of equipment.
